Legal Counsel, Toronto
Our client is one of the world’s leading independent producers of exclusively renewable energy. With proven expertise in solar power, onshore wind power and storage, the company plays an active role in the energy transition by producing competitive, clean, local energy on three continents.
As part of its continued expansion in Canada, the company is seeking a Canadian-qualified Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal support across the development and delivery of its energy infrastructure projects in Canada and, occasionally, throughout the Americas. This role is based in Toronto and reports to the Legal Director – Americas, located in Paris.
In this role, you will be a trusted legal partner to the different teams of the company : commercial, development, and operations teams. You will advise across the full project lifecycle—from early-stage development and public/private bids to project financing, construction, and ongoing operations and maintenance. You will also oversee day-to-day corporate and commercial matters, manage claims, and liaise with external counsel on disputes impacting the company’s Canadian portfolio.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a Canadian-qualified lawyer with:
- 8+ years of experience, ideally combining private practice and in-house roles;
- Proven legal and claim management experience in infrastructure or energy projects, with a strong preference for renewable energy exposure;
- Understanding of project development, financing, construction, and operations within regulated environments;
- A business mindset, collaborative approach, and the ability to navigate cross-cultural and international environments;
- A pragmatic, entrepreneurial spirit with excellent judgment and communication skills.
This is a unique opportunity to join a global renewable energy leader and play a meaningful role in accelerating the clean energy future in Canada.
