Due to continued growth, Central 1 Credit Union is now seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with at least eight years of experience to join its dynamic and growing legal team. As a Senior Legal Counsel at Central 1, you’ll be a key leader within the legal team, working closely with the Chief Legal Officer and the business, in particular with the payments team, to provide expert legal support, with a strong focus on payments. You will guide payments stakeholders through complex legal matters, ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, and drive high-impact projects. Candidates with experience in Procurement & Vendor Management, Anti-Spam, Privacy, and Data Protection, Contract Management, and Regulatory Compliance would be preferred.
As the preferred candidate, you have a solid corporate/commercial background, with at least 8 years of private practice experience in a leading business law firm environment, preferably at either a major law firm or in an in-house environment with a financial institution. You will have in-depth knowledge of the payments industry, including familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as PCI DSS, AML, and privacy laws. You will bring your experience in securities and lending transactions, including securities issuances, derivative transactions, syndicated loan transactions and securitizations, drafting banking documentation, knowledge of provincial and federal financial institution regulation, and the ability to work collaboratively, think practically, and use sound judgement. Strong organizational skills and client service skills are a valued asset.
